Warriors Hang On For Win over Mounties

COVINA, Calif. - El Camino College won their fifth consecutive game on Saturday night against Mt. San Antonio at Covina District Field in a 45-41 win.

El Camino College (5-2, 2-0) held onto their lead for almost the entire game except for a few minutes late in the third quarter against Mt. Sac (4-3, 0-2).

Grant Ferrauilo was 19-25 and led the offense for the Warriors with 4 passing touchdowns and 319 yards.  Trevon Clark once again led the receiving corps with three touchdowns on 7 receptions for 197 yards. Raymond Graham led the rushing for the Warriors with 36 yards on 22 carries and scored a touchdown.  

The defense was able to create multiple turnovers for the Warriors by having four interceptions and forcing two fumbles  Isaiah Lemos and Alfredo Reyes each had two interceptions. Justin Martz forced a fumble and had the only sack for the Warriors.  Martz and Quinn Perry led the defense with 10 tackles a piece.

For the first time all season, the Warriors took the lead in the beginning of the game.  Isaiah Lemos intercepted Steven Nava's very first pass and returned to the end zone for a pick-six.  The Warriors were able to score on their first drive of the game to make it 14-0 to start the game. Aaron Thomas led the offense for a 12-play, 65 yard drive.  Raymond Graham fought off multiple defenders for a 15-yard touchdown run.

Mt. San Antonio would answer with a 11-play 65 yard drive to make it a 14-7 game before the end of the first quarter.  

In the second quarter, Grant Ferrauilo took the reins of the offense and guided them to a touchdown on his first drive.  Ferrauilo found Trevon Clark for a 26 yard pass to cap off a 5-play, 42 yard drive to put the Warriors ahead 21-7.

Mt Sac once again responded right away to the Warriors scoring drive with their own 9-play, 75 yard drive to make it 21-14.  

The Warriors made it a 28-14 game on their next drive of the second quarter.  After an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and a personal foul penalty from Mt. Sac, Ferrauilo was able to find Aaron Magee for a 10-yard touchdown pass to cap off a 11-play, 63 yard drive.

Alfredo Reyes intercepted a pass on Mt Sac's next drive and the Warriors were able to kick a field goal before halftime to make it 31-14.   The Warriors drove all the way to the one-yard line but a false start penalty drove the Warriors back to the 7-yard line and they settled on a Chris Valle 24 yard field goal.  

After one of the best halfs for the Warriors all season, the third quarter was nearly a disaster for the Warriors.  

After a great start to the third quarter, led by Alfredo Reyes's second interception of the day.  Ferrauilo found Gabriel Bermudez for a 12-yard pass, but Mt. Sac was able to force a fumble and run it back to the endzone to cut the El Camino lead to 31-21.

The Warriors offense stalled on their next drive and Mt. Sac was able to capitalize on the moment with their own 9-play, 70 yard drive.  After blown coverage on the Warriors right hand side, Steven Nava found a wide open Damian Alloway for a 31-yard pass to cut the deficit to 4 points to make it a 31-27 game.  

After the Warriors were forced to punt on their next drive, it took one play for Mt. Sac to take the lead with 4:16 left in the third quarter.  Hykeem Massey was able to find a hole in the Warrior defense and rushed for a 68-yard touchdown to give the Mounties a 34-31 lead.

However, the Warriors were able to respond right away with their own 4-play, 75 yard, 1 minute 19 second drive.  Ferrauilo found Trevon Clark down the sideline for a 59-yard pass to put the Warriors back ahead, 38-34.

The Mounties responded right away with another 1-play, 12 second touchdown on their next drive.  Steven Nava found Chris Jackson for a 95-yard score off a pass up the middle to give the Mounties back a 41-38 lead.  

At the start of the 4th quarter the big plays continued.  Grant Ferrauilo found Trevon Clark for his third touchdown of the day off a 74 pass to give the Warriors back a 45-41 lead.  

The defense held strong for the remainder of the 4th quarter by forcing two turnovers.  Isaiah Lemos intercepted a pass and the Warriors defense were able to force a fumble on Mt. Sac's next drive.

The El Camino offense was able to eat up clock after getting the ball back with 3:40 left in the game.  The Warriors were forced to punt with 15 seconds left in the game but Mt. Sac ran out of time to mount a serious comeback.  

After being on the road for two weeks, the Warriors will return home to Murdock Stadium on Saturday, October 27th against Palomar College.  The game against Palomar College is the only scheduled night game at Murdock Stadium this season and kick-off is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
