Defense Racks Up the Takeaways as Warriors Upend L.A. Harbor

TORRANCE, Calif. – The No. 16 El Camino College defense recorded six takeaways as the Warriors dominated L.A. Harbor 48-20 in a National Central Conference matchup on Thursday night at Murdock Stadium.

After nearly a month away from Murdock Stadium and coming off a bye week, the annual Homecoming Game was just the home-cooking the Warriors (4-2, 1-0) needed as they put the Seahawks (2-4, 0-1) away by halftime.

The Warriors recorded five interceptions by five different players and also recovered a fumble en route to 48 straight points before the Seahawks ever got on the board.

Offensively, the Warriors were led by Jacobi Hardy's three rushing touchdowns, all in the first half. He finished with 56 yards on 11 carries.

Cole Klayman was excellent in two quarters of action, going 13-for-19 for 226 yards and two touchdowns including a 45-yard score to Jarrell Mickens, the Warriors leading receiver on the night. He finished with four catches for 72 yards and a score. Trevon Clark added three catches for 51 yards and a touchdown.

In the second half, Jerman Gotoy took over at quarterback and tossed two touchdowns of his own to Timothy Jones and Larry Seuga, finishing with 77 passing yards.

The Warriors put the game away early against L.A. Harbor, scoring three touchdowns in the first quarter to take a 20-0 lead after one. Hardy started off the scoring with a three-yard score to cap off a five-play, 51-yard drive.

On the ensuing Seahawks drive, Shawn Richard came up with a strip-sack of quarterback Jalin Scott and Taylor Flowers recovered for ECC on the Seahawks' 9-yard line.

Hardy quickly found the end zone on the next play with a nine-yard TD to put ECC up 14-0.

After the defense forced a punt, the Warriors essentially put the game away with a nine-play, 33-yard scoring drive that culminated with a 17-yard touchdown pass from Klayman to Clark to put ECC up three scores and they never looked back.

The victory snapped a two-game skid for the Warriors and got them started off with a win to open conference play. They will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 21 on the road against Mount San Antonio. Kickoff for that game is set for 6 p.m.
