ANCHORAGE – El Camino College assistant coach Grant Palmer and shortstop Taishi Nakawake claimed summer glory Tuesday as the Anchorage Bucs won the Alaskan Baseball League's Top of the World Series with a 7-1 victory over the Anchorage Glacier Pilots.

Palmer served as the head coach for the third straight season for the Bucs, who downed the Pilots in the best-of-three series. With Palmer at the helm, the Bucs finished the season with a 33-16 overall record. They went 29-14 during the summer to claim the No. 1 seed in the playoffs and went 4-2 in the postseason.

"It was a great run for this team in the summer," Palmer said. "It was particularly great to get to coach Taishi one more time before he goes on to the next level. It was a pleasure watching him at El Camino the last two seasons and great to see him have a great postseason."

Nakawake went 4-for-10 for the Bucs in the Top of the World Series including a 2-for-4 day with three RBI in a 6-5 game-one victory. He finished the postseason with a .368 batting average (7-for-19) with two doubles, four runs scored and four RBI.
