Borges and Galicia lead Warriors to Win over Cypress

TORRANCE, Calif. - Joseph Borges had a grand slam and Jimmy Galicia threw his second complete game in the postseason in a commanding 8-3 win over Cypress in the opening game of the CCCAA Southern California Baseball Regional.

Jimmy Galicia retired 19 straight batters to start the game.  Galicia was masterful again on the mound for the Warriors (35-6) and allowed 3 runs (2 earned), 4 hits, 1 walk, and fanned two batters.  Eric Chavarria suffered the loss for the Chargers (29-14) after allowing 7 runs on 7 hits, 3 walks, and striking out 8 batters.

Ty Conrad and Taishi Nakawake were the only two Warriors with multi-hit games.  Every hitter reached the bases at least once in the game for the Warriors. Joseph Borges hit a grand slam in a six run 2nd inning for the Warriors for his fourth home run of the year.

The Warriors took a big 6-run lead in the 2nd inning and never looked back. Ty Conrad led the inning off with a bunt.  Aaron Orozco and Brendon Casillas were both hit by pitches. Taishi Nakawake scored Conrad on a sac fly to make it 1-0.  Jerry Granillo and Spencer Palmer both walked to bring in another run and keep the bases loaded. Joseph Borges hit a grand slam over the LF wall to demoralize the visitors and give the Warriors a 6-0 advantage.

The Warriors added one more run in the 3rd inning off back to back hits from Matt Beserra and Brendon Casillas to make it 7-0.  

Galicia had a perfect game through 6.1 innings before he allowed a walk.  Isaiah Stewart had a base hit and Eric Bigani reached on an error to load the bases.  Jesse Lopez singled to LF to bring in two runs for the Chargers and break up the shut out for the Warriors.

The Chargers and Warriors traded runs in the eighth inning to make it an 8-3 game.  

Galicia got three straight outs in the 9th to complete his second complete game in the postseason, with this game taking only 104 pitches.

The Warriors will square off against Cypress College again on Friday, May 10th at 2:00 PM.  The Warriors will be the designated vistiting side and the Cypress Chargers will be the designated home team.
