Eight Warriors Earn All-Conference Nods
Eight players were given South Coast Conference, South Division All-Conference honors as the 2019 All-SCC Teams were announced. Three players were named to the first team and five were named to the second team.
Both freshman starting pitchers, Jimmy Galicia and Aaron Orozco and sophomore outfielder Joseph Borges were named to the All-SCC First Team.
Aaron Orozco went 10-1 for the season in 13 starts. He has tossed 2 complete games and one shutout in 83.1 innings pitched. He is second in the state with 10 wins and eleventh in the state with 88 strikeouts. Orozco went 6-1 in conference play with a 3.04 ERA, 17 BB, 50 Ks in 47.1 innings pitched.
Jimmy Galicia went 9-2 for the season in 12 starts. He tossed two complete games and earned one save for the season in 89 innings pitched. He is eleventh in the state with a 1.82 era and tied for 6th in the state with 9 wins. He went 5-2 in conference play with a 1.96 ERA, 11 walks, 38 strikeouts in 55 innings pitched.
Joseph Borges earned his second straight all-conference honors after being named to the All-SCC first team. He was named to the second team last year. Borges had a line of .316/.340/.426 for the season along with 30 runs scored and 30 RBIs along with 3 home runs. In conference play, Borges batted .354 with 26 runs scored and 22 RBIs and hit five doubles and 2 home runs.
The Warriors had five players named to the All-SCC Second Team. Sophomore pitchers Max Pappas and Spencer Long along with sophomore infielders Spencer Palmer and Taishi Nakawake and sophomore outfielder Ty Conrad.
Max Pappas went 7-1 for the season in 11 starts. Pappas had a 2.39 ERA in 75.1 innings pitched. In conference play, Pappas went 4-1 with a 2.47 ERA along with 13 walks, 34 strikeouts in 47.1 innings pitched.
Besides being the starting second baseman for the Warriors, Spencer Long was one of the best relievers in the state and was tied for third with 8 saves. Long had a miniscule 0.43 ERA in 21 innings pitched and 11 appearances. Long allowed just one run in all his outings and struckout 23 batters and allowed two walks. In conference play, Long went 1-0 with 3 saves and a 0.00 ERA in 10 innings pitched.
Spencer Palmer earned his second straight All-SCC honors after being named to the All-SCC Second team. Palmer was named to the first team last season. Palmer had a line of .346/.500/.549 for the season. He led the team with 46 hits and three home runs. Palmer scored 34 runs and had 30 RBIs despite hitting in the second spot in the lineup. He led the tem with 14 doubles, 30 walks, and 15 HBPs. In conference play, Palmer batted .296, had a .519 OBP, and had five doubles, two triples, three home runs, 25 walks, and had 18 RBIs.
Taishi Nakawake was named to the All-SCC second team. The sophomore shortstop had a line of .275/.345/.366 with 23 runs scored and 16 RBIs. Batting in the 9th spot, Nakawake had 36 hits, 7 doubles, one triple, and one home run. In conference play, Nakawake batted .266 with five doubles, one home run, and 8 RBIs.
Ty Conrad earned his second all-conference honors after being named to the All-SCC second team. Conrad was given All-SCC first team honors in 2017 and sat out the 2018 season with an injury. The sophomore outfielder had a line of .240/.347./.336 and scored 19 runs and had 22 RBIs. Conrad had 35 hits, 6 doubles, 1 triple, and 2 home runs. In conference play, Conrad batted .305 with 2 home runs, and 18 RBIs.
Head coach Nate Fernley took home the SCC South Coach of the Year.
The Warriors won their fifth SCC Title in 2019 and second in three years. They will open up the postseason this Friday as they host No. 15-seed Pasadena City at Warrior Field. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
