Warriors Drop Nailbiter at Long Beach

LONG BEACH, Calif. - No.3 El Camino College couldn't preserve a 1-0 lead late in the game and fell 2-1 at Long Beach City College in game two of a three game set.

With the starters for both sides locked in a pitching duel, El Camino struck first in the Top of the 6th inning with a one run lead.  Matt Beserra was able to drive Ty Conrad in from second base with two outs to give the Warriors the advantage.

However, one inning later, the hosts responded with two runs of their own.  Mark Stanford and Brett Wells led the bottom of the seventh off with back to back base hits.  They advanced to 3rd and 2nd on a sac bunt. Jimmy Galicia was able to get the second batter to fly out to shallow right field without the runner on third tagging.  The Vikings sent a pinch hitter up to bat and Galicia had a favorable count against the batter and it looked like the Warriors were going to be able escape the frame unharmed.  However, he ended walking the pinch hitter to load the bases and the leadoff hitter, Raul Gonzalez was able to drive in the runners on 3rd and 2nd to give the Vikings a 2-1 lead. Trevor Sutt was able to shut the door on El Camino and close out the final two innings.

Jimmy Galicia suffered his first loss of the season despite pitching the whole game, he gave up two runs on eight hits, one walk, and struck out four batters.  Garrett Rennie picked up the win after tossing seven innings and giving up just one run on eight hits and one walk.

Logan Young and Spencer Palmer were the two Warriors that registered multi-hit games.  However, the Warriors left eight men on base for the day and had the misfortune to hit into an inning ending double play with bases loaded and one out in the 3rd inning.

The series will now shift back to the friendly confines of Warrior Field where the Warriors are 10-1.  El Camino is looking to win their sixth conference series in a row and to remain atop the South Coast Conference standings.  First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 PM on Saturday afternoon.
