Five Run Third Inning Propels Baseball Over Chargers

CYPRESS, Calif. - In a battle between the two baseball teams with the best records in Southern California, El Camino emerged victorious with a 6-3 win over Cypress College on the road.

The Warriors (12-1) offense outhit the Chargers (13-2) nine hits to five.  Brett Gieseke had a great day at the plate going 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBIs, and hitting the first El Camino homerun of the season.  Spencer Palmer was the other Warrior with two hits for the day. Spencer Long hit his first homerun of the year as well in the third inning.  

Max Pappas picked up his third win of the season after tossing seven innings giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits, five walks, and striking out one batter.  Julian Diaz tossed a scoreless inning of relief and Spencer Long tossed the final inning, giving up his first run of the season.

Eric Chavarria took the loss for Cypress after tossing four innings giving up all six runs on eight hits, two walks, and striking out two batters.  

The Warriors opened up the scoring in the first inning after Brett Gieseke singled to third base.  Spencer Palmer was able to drive him in the next at-bat on a double to right center to put the Warriors up 1-0.

Cypress responded in the bottom half of the inning after Trevor Jones walked with two outs and scored on a hit by Jack Gardner to center field that Joseph Borges almost made a fantastic diving play on.  

The Warriors tacked on five runs in the third inning.  Ty Conrad led the inning off with a walk before Brett Gieseke launched the first Warrior home run of the year over the left center fence.  Aaron Orozco singled up the middle with two outs and Joseph Borges doubled over the center fielder's head to score Borges. Spencer Long hit his first home of the year over the left field wall to make it a 6-1 game. 


Cypress scored one run in the fifth inning and one more run in the ninth inning before the Warriors closed out the 6-3 win.

The Warriors have now won their fifth game in a row after starting the season with a seven game winning streak.  They start conference play against Mt. Sac on Thursday at Mt. Sac. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
