Warriors Defeat Fullerton in Shortened Game

FULLERTON, Calif. - The El Camino College Warriors defeated the Fullerton Hornets 3-0 in six innings on Saturday afternoon. The rest of the game was called off after a freak injury when two Fullerton outfielders collided in the 6th inning.

Aaron Orozco was excellent again on the mound for the Warriors (11-1) as he tossed five scoreless innings giving up four hits, four walks, and fanning five batters.  Taed Heydinger took the loss for the Hornets (3-8) after giving up two runs on five hits and a walk.

Spencer Palmer led the offense with two of the team's five hits.  Ty Conrad, Aaron Orozco, and Taishi Nakawake each tallied a hit as well.

El Camino scored first in the game during the second inning.  Orozco led the inning off with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch.  Joseph Borges made it onto the bases after an error by the right fielder. Spencer Long hit a sac fly that scored Orozco and made it 1-0.  Borges stole second base with two outs and Sladen Mohl scored him on a fielder's choice to make it 2-0. Nakawake and Ty Conrad would reach the bases to load them up before Brett Gieseke struck out to end the frame.

The Warriors added one more run in the 6th inning before the game was called. Long led the inning off with a walk and Jerry Granillo was hit by a pitch.  Mohl would again reach the bases on an error to load the bases up. Nakawake hit a sac fly to right field that scored a run to make it 3-0. On that play, the center fielder and the right fielder had a violent collision which resulted in both players being unable to continue.  After a long delay, the rest of the game was called off with El Camino adding another win to their new four game win streak.

Next up for the Warriors is a big matchup with Cypress College on Tuesday, February 26th.  The Chargers are 13-1 this season and atop of the Orange Empire Conference.
