Baseball defeats LA Mission at Home

TORRANCE, Calif. - After two games were postponed this week to inclement weather, the Warriors were able to add a game late against LA Mission and defeated them 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at Warrior Field.  

The Warriors (8-1) scored two runs in the first inning and never looked back as they held on for the win against the Eagles (3-5).  

The reigning CCCBCA Pitcher of the Week, Aaron Orozco, had another great outing.  Orozco went 7 innings strong, striking out 7 batters, and giving up one run off 6 hits and zero walks.  Spencer Long shut the door for the final two innings to earn his fourth save of the season.

Brett Gieseke and Matt Beserra both had two hit games.  Beserra was 2-2 from the plate with two RBIs and Gieseke was 2-3 with two runs scored.  Spencer Palmer, Taishi Nakawake, and Joseph Borges each picked up a hit.

The Eagles took the lead for their only time in the top of the first inning.  After a double by Robert Reeves and a one out single by Jose Holguin, the Eagles had runners on the corners.  Jonathan Max hit a shallow fly out to right field that Reeves was able to tag up and score on. If Gieseke's throw was in line, the Warriors would've had a chance for a double play to end the inning.  

The Warriors were able to shake it off and respond right away in the bottom half of the inning.  Gieseke and Palmer both hit one out singles and advanced 90 feet each on a wild pitch. Matt Beserra drove both of them in to give the Warriors a 2-1 lead.  

LA Mission had a great chance to tie the game up in the 4th inning.  After a one out single by Jonathan Max, Andrew Scheinert hit into a 5-4 fielder's choice that the Warriors defense made an error on.  The Eagles had runners on 3rd and 2nd before Miguel Marin smacked a line drive straight to Spencer Long, who was able to flip it to Nakawake and get the double play to end the inning and the Eagles best scoring opportunity for the rest of the game.

The Warriors wouldn't strike again until the 8th inning when Gieseke led the inning off with a double.  Two walks by Beserra and Long gave the Warriors bases loaded. Gieseke scored off a wild pitch to make it 3-1 and give the Warriors an extra insurance run.  

The Warriors return to action on Tuesday, February 19th against LA Mission.  The game is scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM.
