Warriors Take Opener vs Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - El Camino College extended their win streak to six games to start the season after defeating Bakersfield College 4-2 on Thursday evening in game one of their three game set.

Some strong pitching by El Camino (6-0) starter Jimmy Galicia and a big fourth inning by the offense propelled the Warriors to the victory over Bakersfield (6-2)

Galicia tossed seven solid innings giving up two runs off two hits, one walk, and struck out six batters.  Spencer Long came in to close out the final two innings, picking up his third save of the year and gave up only one hit

Aaron Orozco had two of the Warriors' six hits for the day and picked up one RBI and scored one run.  Ty Conrad, Spencer Palmer, Brett Gieseke, and Taishi Nakawake each picked a hit in the game. Jerry Granillo had two sac flys' that scored the go-ahead run in the 4th inning and an insurance run in the 8th inning.

Bakersfield led off the scoring in the second inning.   Zac Williams was hit by a pitch, made it to third on a throwing error, and scored on a groundout to put the Renegades up 1-0.

The Warriors would respond in the 4th inning with a big inning.  Palmer hit a one out single to center field before advancing to second base on a wild pitch.  Matt Beserra reached on an error to give the Warriors runners on the corners. Aaron Orozco hit a single to left field to bring in Palmer to tie the game up at 1-1.  Brett Gieseke doubled down the RF line to bring in Beserra to make it 2-1. Jerry Granillo hit a sac fly to RF to bring in Orozco to give the Warriors a 3-1 lead.

Bakersfield would get one run back in the bottom half of the inning after a leadoff double by Will Reynolds and a single by Landn Kauk.
However, the Warriors would tack on an insurance run in the 8th inning.  Palmer reached on an error, Beserra was hit by a pitch, and Orozco hit a single to shallow right field all with zero outs.  However, only a Granillo sac fly would score a run to make it a 4-2 game. But Spencer Long shut the door on the Renegades to finish the game.

The Warriors will look to win the series tomorrow and continue their hot start to the season with another game at Gerry Collis Field.  First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
