Early Offensive Explosion Paces Warriors to Victory over Moorpark

TORRANCE, Calif. - El Camino College scored early and never looked back as they defeated Moorpark 12-4 at home on Friday afternoon.

The Warriors (5-0) scored all of their 12 runs in the first five innings and outhit the Raiders (0-4) 13-to-5 for the game.  

8 of the 9 batters in the starting lineup picked up a hit.  Spencer Palmer led the way by going 3-for-5 with two runs and four RBIs.  Palmer picked up his seventh double of the season and he has hit one in every game so far.  Aaron Orozco, Brett Gieseke, and Jerry Granillo all picked up two hits a piece.

Orozco started the game and picked up the win after going five innings strong giving up two runs on three hits, one walk, and three strikeouts.  Jimmy Galicia picked up the four inning save giving up two runs on three hits.

Caden Gustafson suffered the loss for the Raiders after going 3.2 innnings pitched.  However, the Raiders defense did the Moorpark pitching staff no favors by committing six errors in the game.

The Warriors struck first in the bottom of the first inning.  Spencer Long reached on an error by the shortstop and Palmer singled to advance him to third.  Matt Beserra hit a sac fly to center to bring in Long to make it 1-0. Orozco to give the Warriors two base runners in scoring position and Brett Gieseke singled to left center to bring them home to make it 3-0.  

The Warriors made it 5-0 in the second inning after loading the bases to start the inning.  Long hit a sac fly to bring in one runner and Palmer hit into a 3-1 groundout to make it 5-0 early in the game.

Moorpark would get one run back in the top of the 3rd inning after Orozco let two runners on via hit batsman.  James Terrazas doubled to bring in the both runners to make it a 5-2 game.

Orozco quickly made up for it in the bottom half of the inning after tripling to left center to start the inning.  Gieseke hit a sac fly to left field to bring him home and make it 6-2.

The Warriors tacked on two more runs in the fourth inning.  Ty Conrad singled through the left side and stole second with two outs.  Palmer hit a double to right center to make it a 7-2 game and the next batter, Beserra hit a double to right center as well to make it an 8-2 game.  

The Warriors blew open the game with four runs in the fifth inning.  Gieseke led the inning off with a single. Brendon Casillas reached the bases after the left fielder and center fielder misplayed a ball and Taishi Nakawake was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Ty Conrad was hit in the next at-bat to make it a 9-2 game. Spencer Long singled to to right field to bring in one more run to make it a 10-2 game. And finally Spencer Palmer hit a base hit to right field that the right fielder misplayed that allowed two more runs to score to make it a 12-2 game.  

The Raiders would add two more runs in the 7th inning after a two run home run over the left field wall by A.J. Herron-Barrera but that was it.  Galicia was able to get the final eight batters out consecutively.

The undefeated Warriors will now head to Bakersfield College for a three- game series next week.  First pitch is scheduled for Thursday at 6:00 PM.
