El Camino College second baseman Diego Alarcon was named to the 2018 American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings Pacific Association Division Gold Glove Team, it was announced Wednesday.

The Warriors second baseman in 2018, Alarcon was a staple of the team's infield during his freshman campaign. Alarcon played in all 47 games for ECC in his first year with the team and made only five errors in 212 chances. His defense ramped up in conference play as he made just one error in 101 chances against the South Coast Conference.

He was also involved in 26 double plays, 14 of them in conference. Alarcon was one of six players on the nine-person squad selected from the state of California and one of two players selected from Southern California.

Alarcon had a stellar year as a freshman with the Warriors, playing in every game and posting a .328 batting average. He recorded 67 hits including 13 doubles and five home runs to go along with 37 RBI and 46 runs scored.

He was a vital part of the Warriors' run in the final two months of the season including the playoffs. In May, Alarcon went on a tear, batting .414 (12-for-29) in seven games with 12 hits, three doubles, one homer and eight RBI.
