Warriors Drop First Game of CCCAA Sectionals at Orange Coast

COSTA MESA, Calif. - Orange Coast College jumped to an early lead and never looked back as El Camino fell 9-0 in the first game of the CCCAA Sectionals at Wendell Pickens Field.

Kenneth Haus picked up second loss of the season for the Warriors (28-18).  After a nervy start start to the game in the first inning it looked like Haus found his groove after getting a strike out and caught stealing double play for the first two outs in the first inning.  However, The Pirates (32-13) took advantage of the wind blowing out to left field and blasted two home runs to put up a five spot in the bottom of the first. Haus lasted only one inning, giving up 5 runs off two hits, two walks in thirty-three pitches.

The Warriors offense could never seem to figure out OCC starter, Michael Giacone who threw eight innings of shutout ball, giving up just five hits, two walks, and striking out six batters.

Diego Alarcon continued his torrid postseason offense by going 3-for-4 at the plate.  Spencer Palmer and Spencer Long were the only other Warriors to pick up a hit in the days contest.  The Warriors never got pass second base and left nine men on base.

Trevor Talpas tossed a fantastic 5.2 innings of relief.  Talpas allowed just one run off 6 hits, 4 walks, and struck out three batters.  Nathan Draves tossed the final 1.1 innings allowing three more runs for the Pirates.

The Pirates struck for one run in the third inning off a double and a single to start the inning which made it a 6-0 game.  They struck for three more runs in the eighth inning to put the game away for good.

The Warriors will look to put Friday's game behind them and respond the next day in Game Two vs the Pirates.  First pitch is scheduled at 1:00 PM. The Pirates will send RHP Cameron Jabara (7-0, 3.65 ERA) to the hill tomorrow.  The Warriors scored five runs against him last year in Game Two of the 2017 Sectionals. The Warriors starter for Saturday's contest is TBD.
