Warriors Mount Comeback in Game 3 To Advance to CCCAA Super Regionals

GAME 3. EL CAMINO COLLEGE 9, MOORPARK COLLEGE 5
MOORPARK, Calif. – The El Camino College Warriors scored eight unanswered runs to come back and rally against the Moorpark College Raiders and took Game 3, 9-5 to advance to the super regionals in the CCCAA Southern California Section.
The Warriors (26-17) struck first in the game via an RBI single by Cody Wissler . However, the Raiders (26-17) answered right back in the first inning for two runs of their own. The Raiders pushed across three more runs in the second inning to give them a 5-1 lead after two innings.
After facing a 5-1 deficit and heading to their final twelve outs of the season, the Warriors bats finally woke up for the weekend. Spencer Long hit a key 3-run homerun over the left field fence to tie the game at 5-5 in the sixth inning and swing the momentum back to the Warriors. The Warriors pounded out a weekend high fourteen hits during the game.

In the eighth inning, Trevor McInerney came in as a pinch hitter and got the game winning hit on a two out knock to left field that put the Warriors on top 6-5.

Matthew Beserra hit a huge two out three run bomb in the top of the 9th inning to make it a 9-5 ballgame and to give Max Pappas and the Warriors some much needed insurance runs.
Max Pappas was brilliant in relief for the Warriors. As he tossed the final 5.1 innings for the Warriors and allowed zero runs, three hits, one walk, and struck out three batters. Pappas came into the game with two outs in the Bottom of 4th inning and two runners on base and struck out the first batter he saw to end the frame for the Raiders.
Daniel Alvarez got the start for the Warriors and lasted just 1.2 innings allowing five runs off five hits, one walk, and striking out two batters. Trevor Talpas had to take over the mound in a tough spot with bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the 2nd inning but could not escape the jam without allowing the inherited runners on base to score. Talpas tossed two innings of relief giving up zero earned runs on two hits, three walks, and striking out two batters.
The Warriors have advanced to the second round in the CCCAA playoffs for the second straight season and will face division rival and the number one seed in the Southern California Section in Cerritos College. The Warriors went 1-2 this season against the Cerritos Falcons.
GAME 2 EL CAMINO COLLEGE 1, MOORPARK COLLEGE 6
MOORPARK, Calif. – El Camino College stranded twelve baserunners for the day as they could not push runs across the plate and fell to Moorpark College, 6-1 in Game 2 of the CCCAA Southern California Regional Opener.
Grant Nechek pitched 8 innings for the Moorpark Raiders (26-16) and allowed just one run, seven hits, and struck out thirteen batters. Spencer Long got the start for the El Camino College Warriors (25-17) and went innings 5.1 innings and gave up five runs (4 earned) off six hits, one walk, and striking out six batters . Nathan Draves tossed 3.2 inning of relief giving up one run off five hits, one walk, and striking out one batter. Draves had to come in with the bases loaded in the top of the sixth with one out, and allowed two inherited runners to score.
El Camino College threatened with a runner in scoring position in the fourth, fifth, and seventh innings before finally bringing in one run in the eighth inning. Joseph Borges led the 8th inning off with a base hit and advanced to second on a ground out to third. Jerry Granillo singled to bring Borges over to third before Sean Whorley drove in Borges off the third base hit of the inning. However, it was too little and too late for the Warriors to mount a comeback effort for the game.
