Warriors Edge Moorpark in Regional Opener

MOORPARK, Calif. -  Kenneth Haus continued his postseason heroics by throwing eight shutout innings against Moorpark College as the Warriors took Game One, 1-0 in the CCCAA Southern California Regional Opener.  

The regional opener was a pitchers duel between Kenneth Haus of El Camino College (25-16) and Andrew Nardi of Moorpark College (25-16).  Haus shoved for eight innings giving up zero runs, four hits, four walks, and striking out seven batters. Nardi went 7.2 innings allowing one run, four hits, one walk, and striking out nine batters.  

The Warriors and Raiders traded zeros for the first six innings of the game.  El Camino College scored the only run of the game in the top of the sixth inning.  Jose Ruiz Jr. and Diego Alarcon hit back to back two out singles before Cody Wissler walked to load the bases.  Joseph Borges broke the 0-0 tie with a single to LF that scored Ruiz Jr. and gave the Warriors a 1-0 lead.

Tommy Stropky came in to close out the game for the Warriors in the ninth inning.  He gave up a leadoff single to Grant Bunker to start the ninth inning before Moorpark sac bunted him over to second base.  Stropky got a line out to shortstop for the 2nd out of the inning. Jason Hyman then hit a base hit to left field before Jerry Granillo gunned the runner out at home trying to score to end the game and preserve the 1-0 victory for the Warriors.  

The Warriors will look to close out the series tomorrow at Moorpark.  Game 2 is scheduled for 11:00 AM and El Camino College will be the home team.  If Game 3 is necessary, it will be played approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of Game 2.
