Warriors Complete the Series Sweep Against Compton

TORRANCE, Calif. -  El Camino College finished strong in their last week of the regular season by completing a series sweep against Compton College and winning the final game 10-0.

The Warriors (24-16, 13-9) once again used a strong offensive attack and excellent pitching to shutout the Compton Tartars (9-31, 1-21).  The Warriors pounded out fourteen hits for the day and outhit Compton 52 hits to 13 hits for the series. The Warriors scored 38 runs compared to Compton's one run in the series.  

The pitching staff completed their second shutout of the week against Compton.  Spencer Long twirled seven scoreless innings and gave up two hits, two walks, and struck out eight batters.  Max Pappas and Tommy Stropky each tossed a scoreless inning in relief.

Every Warrior in the starting lineup scored a run for the day.  The 1-6 batters in the starting lineup each had multiple hits for the game.  Jose Ruiz Jr. went 2-5 at the plate with two runs and one RBI. Diego Alarcon went 2-5 at the plate and scored one run and hit a grand slam in the 2nd inning for his fourth home run of the season.  Spencer Palmer went 2-4 at the dish and scored one run. Cody Wissler went 2-5 at the plate and scored one run and one RBI. Joseph Borges went 2-5 at the plate and scored one run and one RBI. Jordan Folgers went 2-4 at the dish and scored one run and one RBI.

The Warriors opened the scoring by putting up a 5-spot in the 2nd inning.  Beserra singled to center field with one out before Jerry Granillo walked. Taishi Nakawake loaded the bases with a bunt single to the pitcher. Ruiz Jr. singled up the middle to bring in the first run of the game. Alarcon hit a towering shot over the left field wall in the next at-bat for a grand slam to make it a 5-0 lead.  
The Warriors added one one run in each the 5th, 6th, and 7th inning.  And finally added two more runs in the 8th inning.

The Warriors finished in second place in the SCC-South Division with a 13-9 conference record.  Cerritos won the SCC-South Division with a 14-8 conference record. El Camino College will find out over the weekend who they will face in next week's opening round of the playoffs.
