Big Inning Early Carries Warriors Past Southwestern

El Camino College jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back as the Warriors scored a 5-2 victory at Southwestern on Friday afternoon.

The Warriors scored four times in the first inning and the pitching held firm the rest of the way as they recorded the victory over the Jaguars.

Daniel Alvarez picked up his second win of the season, going six innings and allowing just one run on four hits. He walked two and struck out four. Tommy Stropky allowed one run on two hits in his only inning of work and Spencer Long recorded the save, going two scoreless innings and striking out two.

Offensively, the Warriors were led by Joseph Borges' 3-for-4 day with two runs scored and two RBI. He was the only Warriors player to record a multi-hit game. Cody Wissler was 1-for-3 on the day and scored twice.

The Warriors got things started early as Long led off the game by reaching on an error. Jordan Folgers drew a one-out walk and then Matthew Beserra singled to load the bases. With two outs, Borges came through in the clutch with a two-run single to put ECC ahead 2-0.

Jose Ruiz Jr. walked to load the bases again and then Wissler doubled to score two more runs and give the Warriors an early 4-0 lead and they never looked back.

The Warriors will wrap up their week Saturday afternoon as they host San Bernardino Valley at Warrior Field. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
