Long, Folgers Lead Offense as Alvarez Tosses Gem

Spencer Long and Jordan Folgers each had multi-hit and multi-RBI games and Daniel Alvarez was masterful on the mound as El Camino College clinched its series at Bakersfield with a 9-3 non-conference victory Friday night at Gerry Collis Field.

Long had a stellar day at the top of the lineup for the Warriors, going 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and three runs scored. Folgers was 2-for-5 on the day with two doubles, two RBI and a run scored and Joseph Borges' only hit of the game was a 3-run triple in the ninth to put an exclamation point on the victory.

Daniel Alvarez made his first start of the season a notable one as he shut down the Renegades' offense through seven innings. He allowed just four hits and struck out eight to pick up his first win of the season. Max Pappas tossed the final two innings and allowed three runs, two earned, on three hits. He walked two and struck out one.

The game was scoreless through two innings before the Warriors struck first in the third inning. Jose Ruiz Jr. was hit by a pitch from Renegades' starter Lane Cowan. Jerry Granillo followed with a walk and then Ruiz Jr. advanced to third on a passed ball.

After a strikeout turned the lineup over, Long stepped up and picked up his first hit of the night; a double to left that scored both runners and put ECC up 2-0.

Diego Alarcon followed with a walk and then Folgers smoked the first of his two doubles down the left field line to score Long and move Alarcon to third. Spencer Palmer would ground out to second to bring in Alarcon and the Warriors led 4-0 after three innings.

That lead settled Alvarez down on the mound as he faced the minimum in the third, inducing a double play to erase a runner that reached on an error. He would allow a leadoff single in the fourth inning and then proceeded to retire the final 12 batters he faced in a row.

The Warriors added a run in the seventh and then another four-spot in the ninth to put the game away and clinch the series against the Renegades. They will look to complete the sweep on Saturday afternoon. First pitch is set for noon.
