ABCA Players of the Year Release

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Former El Camino College catcher Trevor Casanova was named the 2017 American Baseball Coaches Association Pacific Association Division National Player of the Year, it was announced Wednesday.

The Pacific Association represents the 115 baseball-playing schools in the California Community College Athletic Association and Northwest Athletic Conference.

The award is another accolade to add to Casanova's impressive season in 2017. He was named the ABCA Southern California Player of the Year, South Coast Conference-South Division Player of the Year and was an ABCA First Team All-American.

On June 15, Casanova was drafted in the 14th round of the 2017 MLB First-Year Player Draft with the 423rd overall pick by the Seattle Mariners. He was the first Warriors player taken directly out of ECC in the draft since Kyle Petter was taken in the 34th round of the 2014 MLB Draft by the Cleveland Indians.

He led the team with a .390 batting average, playing in all 51 games for the Warriors. He added 14 doubles, seven triples and eight home runs to go along with 82 hits and 66 runs scored. Casanova helped lead the Warriors to their first conference title and CCCAA State Final Four appearance since 2010. In the postseason, he led the team with a .455 batting average in 11 games, going 20-for-44 with four doubles, one triple, one home run and 15 runs scored to lead the Warriors to a third-place finish at the state championships.

Along with his bat, Casanova policed the base paths as he threw out 44.2 percent of would-be base stealers, gunning down 19 of 43.
