Casanova Drafted by Seattle Mariners

SECAUCUS, N.J. – El Camino College sophomore catcher Trevor Casanova was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 14th round of the 2017 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

The Warriors catcher was selected 423rd overall on the final day of the draft, which goes 40 rounds deep.

Casanova was the first ECC player taken in directly after his last season with the Warriors since former pitcher Kyle Petter was taken in the 34th round of the 2010 MLB Draft by the Cleveland Indians.

The Warriors backstop had a banner season for ECC earning a number of accolades after leading the Warriors with a .390 batting average, 82 hits, eight home runs, seven triples and 66 runs scored while playing all 51 games. He excelled in the postseason, helping lead ECC to the California Community College State Championship Final Four as he batted .455 in 11 games, going 20-for-44 with four doubles, one triple, one homer and 15 runs scored.

He controlled both a stellar pitching staff and policed the base paths as he threw out 44.2 percent of would-be base stealers, gunning down 19 of 43.

Casanova earned American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-American honors as well as All-Region selection and was named the ABCA Southern California Position Player of the Year.
