Casanova Named MVP, Rashi Pitcher of the Year as All Conference Teams Announced

Catcher Trevor Casanova and right-hander Taylor Rashi each earned the South Coast Conference's top honors as the SCC-South Division All-Conference teams were announced Monday.

Casanova was named the SCC-South Most Valuable Player while Rashi earned the SCC-South Pitcher of the Year nod.

Along with the two top honors, the Warriors netted 10 selections to the 2017 All-SCC South Team including five selections to the first team: Cassius Hamm, Jake Carr, Ryan Eastburn, Brady Dorn, Ty Conrad and Noah Barba.  

Ricky Ramos, Kenneth Haus, Angel Mora and Hunter Lewis were all selected to the SCC-South Second Team.

Casanova led the Warriors offensively and played all 40 games for ECC, posting a .373 batting average and 1.106 OPS. He blasted a team-high seven home runs and tallied 36 RBI while tying for the team lead with 28 walks. He also hit 10 doubles and six triples. He also led the Warriors with 20 multi-hit games including a pair of four-hit games while posting a team-best 18-game hitting streak during the season. In 22 conference games, he batted .363 with four triples and led the conference with seven homers and a .703 slugging percentage. He also helped police the base paths as he threw out eight of 13 would-be base stealers in conference play.

Rashi led the Warriors with 86 innings pitched during the season and posted a 9-3 record with a 1.99 earned-run average. He was second in the state with 108 strikeouts and averaged 11.30 strikeouts per nine innings. During conference play, Rashi went 6-2 with a 1.83 ERA, tossing 54 innings and fanned 70 batters.

Hamm earned his second straight All-SCC First Team selection and was the state's premier strikeout pitcher in 2017, leading California with 109 strikeouts in 80 and 1/3 innings pitched during the regular season. He averaged 12.21 strikeouts per nine innings and posted a 10-2 overall record, which tied for the second most victories in the state. Hamm went 6-1 in SCC play, striking out 57 batters in 47 and 2/3 innings pitched.

Carr served as the Warriors relief ace out of the bullpen, making 14 apperances and tossing 20 innings out of the bullpen. He recorded six saves on the year and struck out 21 batters while issuing just four walks and four earned runs on the year. Opponents batted .233 against him as he posted a 1.80 ERA on the year.

Eastburn played in 37 games this season and batted .338, the second best average on the team. He hit one home run and led the Warriors with 41 RBI. In conference play, Eastbutn had six doubles, one home run and 26 RBI while batting .333.

Dorn earned his second straight All-SCC Selection and first First Team nod after posting a .288 batting average in conference play to go with seven doubles and 21 RBI. He led the SCC with 18 walks and tied for the team lead with 28 free passes overall.

Conrad and Barba rounded out the Warriors All-SCC First Team selections with Barba earning his second straight First Team nod. Conrad led the Warriors with nine stolen bases. He was third on the team with a .337 batting average in 40 games. He was second on the squad with 48 runs scored and hit nine doubles. He batted .326 in SCC action with 17 RBI and six stolen bases. Barba patrolled center field for the Warriors, playing all 40 games during the year. He tied for second on the team with four home runs and scored 38 runs during the year. Barba batted .302 with two homers and 15 RBI during conference play.

Ramos, a freshman right-hander, leads off the Warriors second-team selections. He made 12 starts during the season and posted a 6-1 overall record, tossing 69 and 2/3 innings. In conference play, he went 3-1 with 20 strikeouts and a 2.73 ERA in 33 innings pitched.

Haus had the second-most innings out of the bullpen for the Warriors during the year, tossing 29 and 2/3 innings in 13 appearances. He led all ECC relievers with 29 strikeouts and went 3-0 out of the pen. In conference play, Haus went 1-0 with two saves in 18 innings pitched, striking out 20.

First baseman Angel Mora batted .316 with 10 RBI during SCC play for the Warriors. Overall, he played in 37 games and batted .313 with nine doubles and one triple, tallying 28 RBI.

Rounding out the Warriors All-SCC selections, third baseman Hunter Lewis tied for second on the Warriors with four home runs while playing all 40 games for ECC. He led the team with 13 doubles while also posting three triples to go with 33 RBI.

The Warriors won their fourth SCC Title in 2017 and first since 2010. They will open up the postseason this Friday as they host No. 12-seed Glendale at Warrior Field. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
