Baseball Suffers Their Second Consecutive Loss After Traveling to Saddleback College

MISSION VIEJO, Calif.  – The Warriors (8-2) faced the undefeated Saddleback College Gauchos (10-0) Thursday afternoon, losing 5-7.

In the top of the 1st, the Warriors attacked, Trevor Casanova scored first after Brady Dorn grounded in to a double play.  In the bottom of the 1st, Taylor Rashi started on the mound for the Warriors and the Gauchos scored one of their own, ending the inning tied, 1-1.

In the top of the 2nd, Darrien Sylvester hit a triple and was followed up by Trevor Casanova hitting a double. Saddleback responded with 4 runs including a 3 run homerun. The Warriors were down 3-5 leading in to the 3rd inning.

In the 4th, Darrien Sylvester singled, brining Connor Underwood in, making the score 4-5.

In the top of the 5th, the Warriors threatened again, but left runners on 2nd and 3rd. The Gauchos scored another run, ending the inning 4-6. The Gauchos tacked on another run in the 6th inning, leading 7-4.

Tommy Stropky came in to pitch in the 7th inning, closing both innings after 1-2-3. Unfortunately, the Warriors could not execute and lost 5-7.

Trevor Casanova went 2 for 4, with a double, 1 RBI, and 2 runs scored. Darrien Sylvester went 2 for 4, with a triple, 1 RBI and 1 run scored. Connor Underwood went 2 for 3, with two walks and 1 run scored. Tommy Stropky pitched 2 innings, not allowing any runs, hits or walks.

Coach Nathan Fernley commented, "We had chances to win this one, we just could not get the big hit and unfortunately for us, they did. I thought we played hard all game."

The Warriors host the Santa Barbara Vaqueros Saturday at East LA College at 1:00 pm.
