CCCAA Beach Volleyball Pairs Results

CHULA VISTA, Calif. – Phina Leilua and Kylee Glickman went two for three in their matches at the CCCAA Beach Volleyball Pairs State Championships on Friday morning at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.

The 2019 South Coast Conference champions were the lone duo to advance to day two for the Warriors. Leilua and Glickman went 2-1 in Pool 1. The duo kicked off the day of competition with the very first match of the day, falling to Grossmont's pair of Goyoochea/Morris in straight sets (21-18, 23-21).

But the pair bounced back to win their final two matches to take second place in the pool and advance to bracket play on Saturday. Leilua and Glickman needed three sets to down Calderon/Green of Fresno (22-20, 17-21, 15-5) and then defeated Casas/Snyder of San Diego Mesa in three sets as well (15-21, 21-18, 15-10).

Kelly Donatucci and Jessica Villasenor also went off in the morning in Pool 2. But the Warriors No. 4 pair went 1-2 and finished third, just missing out on advancing.  They dropped their opening match to Carnes/Nagase of Feather River (9-21, 24-22, 15-12) but bounced back with a win over Berreke/Zavala of Cypress, the top seeded pair in the group. That left a match against Peterson/E. Woods of Long Beach with the winner clinching the runner-up spot in the group and the loser getting eliminated.

Unfortunately, the Warriors duo fell in straight sets, 21-12, 21-19; and were sent home.

In the afternoon wave, Sophia Loiola and Caitlin Donatucci got underway in Pool 7 but had a rough day, going 0-3 in their matches including a pair of three-set losses in their last two contests.

Leilua and Glickman will take on Pool 2 winners Carnes/Lagase of Feather River in the Round of 16 on Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
