Beach Volleyball Finishes Third at CCCAA Team State Championships

CHULA VISTA, Calif. – The El Camino College Beach Volleyball team came up one win short of advancing to the final match and finished tied for third Thursday at the CCCAA Beach Volleyball Team State Championships hosted by MiraCosta at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.

The Warriors opened the day with a tough match against top-seeded Grossmont. The Warriors  scored a pair of wins in the No. 3 and No. 4 matches but could not come up with the final victory to secure the dual.

The result left the Warriors needing to beat NorCal No. 2 Gavilan and then hoping Gavilan could defeat the top-seeded Griffins by a score of at least 4-1.

The Warriors did their part with a 3-2 win over the Rams with victories from Phina Leilua/Kylee Glickman, Jessica Villasenor/Kelly Donatucci and Jordyn Bonitz/Jocelyn Lacroix.

But the Griffins completed the sweep of Pool One, defeating the Rams 4-1 to advance to the championship match. The Warriors finished the day 1-1, tied with Irvine Valley for third place.
