Three Pairs Advance to CCCAA State Championships

The El Camino College beach volleyball team sent three duos to the CCCAA Beach Volleyball Pairs State Championships after qualifying at the CCCAA Regionals Friday at Irvine Valley College.

The Warriors No. 1, No. 2, and No. 4 pairs all made it through the grueling day on Friday with one Warriors pair having to eliminate another in order to qualify.

Sophia Loiola and Caitlin Donatucci won their opening match to clinch a spot in the CCCAA State Championships and would go on to grab the No. 13 seed from Southern California.

The Warriors No. 2 pair and 2019 South Coast Conference Pairs Champions Phina Leilua and Kylee Glickman also clinched their spot right away and would be the Warriors top seed in next week's tournament, grabbing the No. 9 slot from Southern California.

Kelly Donatucci and Jessica Villasenor were the third and final pair to qualify for the Warriors and they had to take the long road to get there.

The Warriors No. 4 duo dropped its first match of the day and would have to go through the lower half of the bracket to advance. They eventually advanced to the final match to battle for the No. 18, one of the final three slots for Southern California.

But they would have to go through teammates and Warriors No. 3 pair Mikayla Clark and Moe Ikeda. It was a tough match but Donatucci and Villasenor would win the match in three sets to claim the No. 18 seed and a spot in the CCCAA State Championships.

The CCCAA Beach Volleyball State Championships will take place May 9-11 and will be hosted by MiraCosta College at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. The team competition takes place on Thursday, May 9 with the pairs competition going from May 10-11.
