Shimamoto, Hammond Advance to Quarterfinals at CCCAA State Championships

Day One Results

SARATOGA, Calif. – The El Camino College No. 1 pairs squad of Michelle Shimamoto and Micah Hammond swept through both of their matches on Saturday afternoon to advance to the quarterfinals of the California Community College Beach Volleyball State Championships.

The Warriors No. 1 duo entered the day as the No. 27 seed in the 32-team field and faced the No. 6 team of Mikayla Spears and Brianna Finch from Ventura. Hammond and Shimamoto made quick work of their opponents, though, sweeping the Ventura squad 21-16, 21-15.

In their round of 32 match, Shimamoto and Hammond had to tangle with the No. 22 seeded squad of Cyan Blackdeer and Percious Helekahi from Feather River. The Warriors swept through their match, 21-11, 21-13, to clinch their spot in Sunday's quarterfinal, the title match of the Jen Kessy bracket.

Hammond and Shimamoto will face the No. 19 seed of Robyn Arthur and Maddie Schaeffer from Grossmont. The teams previously played at ECC on April 14 with the Warriors duo scoring a sweep over the Griffins combo, 21-18, 21-17.

In other action for the Warriors, the No. 4 ECC pairs and No. 10 seeded team of Brooklyn Rubio and Taylor Brydon suffered an upset loss to the No. 23 seed from Ventura, Sariah Flores and Armonee Hunter, in three sets.
