Fernley, Pattison Named Conference Spring Coaches of the Year

SCC Coaches of the Year Release

El Camino College baseball head coach Nate Fernley and beach volleyball head coach LeValley Pattison were named the South Coast Conference Spring Coaches of the Year.

It was the first time that the conference split the coach of the year awards into Fall and Spring for both genders.

Fernley led the baseball team to an impressive 16-6 overall record and conference-best mark of 10-1 in SCC play before play was halted due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. The Warriors were ranked No. 15 in the first and only state baseball rankings released in March. It is the second straight season Fernley has earned the award after he led the Warriors to a state runner-up finish in 2019.

Pattison had the beach volleyball squad on pace to have the best season in the program's history since its inception in 2015. This year, the Warriors got off to a 10-1 start and earned the program's first ever No. 1 ranking in the Amercian Volleyball Coaches Association rankings. The award was the first time Pattison has ever earned the top coaching award from the conference including her tenure as the indoor volleyball coach for the Warriors, during which the program won back-to-back state titles in 2007-08.

Prior to this season, the Warriors have had a coach receive the top honor from the SCC three times since 2003-04 when the award was created. Fernley was the most recent in 2019 with softball coach Jessica Rapoza earning the women's award in 2014-15 and Dean Lofgren took the men's award in 2010-11.
